What lives in a Tally company, how XML export works, and how the books move without starting over.

Tally data is why many manufacturers delay an ERP. Years of ledgers, GST history, party masters. The fear is starting over.

This is what the move involves, and what goes wrong when it is done by hand.

## What lives in the Tally company

* Masters: customers, vendors, stock items, units, godowns, cost centres, HSN, GSTIN
* Opening balances
* Voucher history: sales, purchase, payments, receipts, journals
* Inventory transactions: delivery notes, GRNs, material issues
* GST mappings on items and parties

All of it should move. The question is how.

## Two ways to move it

**Manual re-entry.** The accounts team types from Tally reports into the new system. This is how many implementations still run. Errors show up after go-live.

**Reading the export.** Tally XML is read, mapped, checked, and loaded. Mach ERP treats this as part of implementation. Items it is unsure about wait for a person.

## How to export from Tally

TallyPrime and Tally ERP 9 both support XML export. In outline:

* Gateway of Tally → Data → Export
* Format: XML
* Company and years
* Masters and vouchers separately if prompted

If the export is awkward, ask your Tally partner. A Mach ERP go-live includes that export.

## Common mistakes

**Loading without checking GST codes.** Wrong or missing HSN, invalid GSTIN, rates that do not match. Invisible in Tally. Painful once e-invoicing is live.

**Carrying every old ledger.** Duplicates, test names, dead parties. Use the move to clean the chart.

**Opening balances only.** Then you cannot ask the new system for history. AR aging becomes a second export again.

**Going live before the review is done.** Once you transact, fixing history means reversing live documents.

## What the Mach ERP sequence looks like

* You send a Tally export or an item list
* Ledgers, items and parties are mapped. GST treatment and duplicates are flagged
* You review the queue. Nothing merges without a person
* Clean data loads. You start using the system

Ask any vendor the same questions: do they accept Tally XML, do they wait for a person on unsure rows, do they bring history or only opening balances, is the work part of go-live or a second invoice.
